How much is childcare in UK these days?
Not going to say because when you tell me how much it is in Estonia Iāll cry.
4 days just outside London is £1200 a month.
Holy shit, thatās crazy, even by Swiss standards.
One last shift tomorrow then Iām off work for 3 and a half weeks. Going to France for a week, renting a mini boat with the missus, gonna cruise around Burgundy, drink good wine and read books. Wanted to visit Blighty too but flights to London are mad expensive, pretty much the price of a cheap return flight to NY. Mental. Iāll come later.
Gonna be in charge of a special project at work for 3 months. My supervisors really wanted me to take care of it, I asked for a pay rise and was told I would get it if this project Iām in charge of goes well (which is what is gonna happen). Gonna have a longer commute (20 minutes instead of 10, nothing crazy) and gonna have to get up pretty early but itās only temporary and one of my favourite local skateparks is close to my future temporary workplace so itās all good.
Can I have your life? Youāre always on such a positive buzz and manage to incorporate lots of skating and dope travel. And iirc you have a really cute cat.
Iām stoked for you! Keep being rad.
Thanks for the kind words.
I probably sound more positive here than I am on the daily, haha.
Still have 2 gorgeous cats and 4 lovely chickens, yes.
Skating as often as I can otherwise I lose my mind.
Going back a few years (5 now) at peak we were just over Ā£1400 pcm for two in nursery. Mortgage was Ā£700ish at the time. Painful but thatās the way it is. The tax credit thing helped a lot. North midlands area so not exactly expansive here!
Ā£300 a day?
I know right, she better fly in with an umbrella and give everyone a spoon full of sugar for that price.
I read it as 4 days a week so £75 a day, still mad though
3 days a week at childminder £610 a month.
Three days a week at nursery, £600 a month here.
Spending between Ā£700-Ā£1000 a month for years and luckily they are all at school from September and the free hours cover what we need for the littlest one. Iād have been fucked if I still needed some childcare after the split now.
Bout £8k a year for little un. Which is horrendously depressing when you type it out
We ended up agreeing Mum would work part time freelance at home cos of this. It wasnāt worth going to employed full time work to then spend all the wages on childcare. Pretty sure Scandinavia will have a better solution, they seem to have child raising nailed.
Thatās still fucking expensive isnāt it!
Itās a lot less than Iād want to look after someone elseās kid.
Yeah, having that money all at once in used tenners in a suitcase would be sick, but the value of peace and quiet to do things⦠Priceless.
Daycare/kindergarten for the 3 year old 5 days a week is about 200 EUR here.
Nanny for the 8 month old, about 3 days a week, is about 700-800 EUR a month
Which doesnāt sound that expensive but neither me nor wife have jobs. (She has startup so is unpaid, I am training (still unpaid) and rent an office that we share)
It doesnāt sound expensive, is there a minimum wage in Estonia? Is the divide between rich and poor better or worse than the UK?
