I basically do bbc news, uk skate forum, standard internet skate shopping, YouTube, blah. Nothing exotic. Don’t open emails from solicitors offering my late Uncle’s inheritance, etc.
After being a (certified pro/engineer/whatever (CMOAC)) windows user for years and hating macs I found myself being forced to use one for work (this was ages ago mind), but I realised after a while that you just open it up and get on with work, the OS felt transparent. I was so used to sorting out little niggles here and there on Windows, that just didn’t happen with the macbook. But then I’ve gone back to Windows (10, 11) and it’s way better now. Doesn’t really bother me which one I use now, although I prefer Windows as it’s more customisable out of the box and works natively with the trading software I’m using.

Windows and OSX are both fine

Yeah it’s generally always been the case that Mac users didn’t really have to worry about viruses because most viruses are built to target Windows OS. That’s perhaps less the case these days as Macs are much more popular, but I’ve never had a virus.
I still run a basic anti virus just in case (free AVG), and it’s always good to scan downloaded zips etc anyway, but there’s less to worry about
The mac operating system is very similar to Linux in the way that it has user permissions and directory/file permissions, also similarities in the way it handles open files and processes, it makes viruses/compromises a lot harder so proper windows-style viruses don’t really exist so much

Can anyone recommend a DVD creator for mac, that does simple menus etc? Pref relatively easy to use and affordable (or free even)

I had this same question last week and ended up using this. You can make custom menus, buttons etc in it even though that might not seem to obvious at first glance. If you use it and get stuck I’m happy to help

WordPress (multi) nerds:
Got a wordpress multi site
Changed theme on child site
Got “There has been a critical error on your website”
Can’t get into dash or frontend, same error. Other sites (and dashes) work ok
Enabled debug in wp_config but doesn’t seem to be creating a debug.log
Renamed all theme directories leaving twenty-twenty, doesn’t do anything but spanner the other sites (changed back, fine now)
Original site still displays error on dash and frontend

It’ll be PHP somehow. Got server access? Check logs
WordPress itself is a piece of shit but it’s always third party modules or themes not playing well with version of PHP or PHP modules

Ah yeah I think you can have different versions of PHP on different subdomains I’ll have to check cpanel

yeah you can have multiple versions of PHP installed and select which domain uses which version. if its cpanel you will also have access to the web server logs from the control panel itself
I’ve been running WP on my portfolio site for years and it’s painfully slow now. Can’t work out if it’s the Wordpress theme or the hosting service making things a little slower because I’m close to the limit with storage.
I bloody hate it sometimes. Miss the old simple HTML which doesn’t need constant updates etc. Wordpress is so needy
All of a sudden when my son searches anything on YouTube his search results only show channels and playlists. No individual videos. I can’t seem to fix it.
If he logs in as me then search results are like normal. Googled away but got nowhere.

Pretty sure my main Win 10 drive (2.5 year old Samsung Pro NVMe) died while in use today.
Machine just suddenly switched off with no warning, lock-up, freezing, etc. and won’t turn back on.
Power supply seems ok as the LEDs on the motherboard are still on, but nothing else. Will have to re-seat some internal cables first before taking the thing apart for testing.
Proper pain in the arse.
