Thanks, good shout.
Just had a look. Nothing obvious in there…
I pretty much turned everything on for him ages back.

Alright Champions,
Anyone got experience animating SVG files?
Need some help with the html editor bit.
Thanks in advance
Long shot here but has anyone got a sort of ‘recipe’ for how to set up a cookie consent banner and link it to google tag manager in a way that complies with GDPR.
I start looking stuff up on this I just quickly have no idea what any of it means.
For Google tags can i just select ‘No additional consent required’ because they understand what consent has been granted…magically?
Has anyone used cookiebot? Seems like the CMP google wants you to use.
There’s some kind of automatic js cookie consent thing you can use as part of adsense, it’s the one I use on here iirc (It’s under ‘GDPR message’ under ‘privacy and messaging’ in adsense - it does everything, text, making box appear, the lot)
So for your cookie banner is it linked with GTM?
So say you have a tag for GA4 - if a user rejects cookies, stuff like page views and stuff should still fire anyway right but remarketing audiences and demographic data and stuff won’t populate. Is that the gist?
Basically a CMP should set ‘accepted’ or ‘rejected’ next to 5 things right?
Ad_storage
Ad_personalisation
And a few others.
Then you have to tell the tag to see if they are accepted or not?
What actually happens to people who don’t have that on a website? Is there some cookie consent branch of the police that’ll come around?
It isn’t as I don’t use GTM but I would be amazed if there isn’t a way it is linked.
Yes
I don’t know the answer to this question.
It’s (old EU) law but I think the UK follow it pretty much anyway.
There are ways you can get penalised, like I think Google search marks you down if you don’t have proper GDPR stuff in place. The police won’t come, no, and I have no idea whether it’s policed or not!
Technically you can get fined millions of pounds.
More likely is that you may end up in the top front page of the Guardian with the words ‘NHS Data Breach’ as the headline. Don’t ask me how I know this…
The reason everyone’s (i.e. me) scrambling now is that there are threats of google ads accounts being suspended for having non GDPR compliant consent checks in place. I just need to work out how to tick the right boxes in a way that doesnt kill my conversion reporting.
It’s both staggeringly complicated and staggeringly boring at the same time.
@Les_Zeppelin do you want me to ask the devs at work?
I’m back on Google ads soon so reckon we could have a chat haha
Yes please!
DM me the exact problem.
Busy decorating a house but what CMS are you using? How are you hosting this website? Normally there’s a module you can add that will do this for you. There’s absolutely loads of plug ins/modules depending on how your site is built.
I mostly fuck with Magento and that has a fair few varieties of extensions for this stuff as well as a built in cookie manager that will do it if you’re feeling cheap.
I think you’d need OneTrust or similar to actually make sure that consent is being adhered to. The consent management in GTM is a pain in the arse to configure. Having a banner is purely cosmetic and does nothing for functionality as far as I know. Something actually needs to control the collection of data and a CMP does that. GTM then integrates with that platform to ensure that compliance with consent is there, and then subsequently no data will be collected and no tags will fire and the paranoid masses will breathe a sigh of relief while complaining that they all get tampon ads and miss out on the fishing deals as they elect to avoid personalisation.
Hi quick website question for those more clued up than me. I built a site in wp years ago, it’s been redone since in Squarespace by someone else. The domain is still in my name. The client wants to transfer to another host.
Do I need to change ownership first under the old hosting, then they can transfer the site once it’s in their name, or can they transfer to new host and owner at the same time?
How do you transfer a Squarespace site from one hosting to another? Is it relatively easy or a 'mare?
This is why I prefer print jobs
sorry you mean they want to host it with the other person now? and you are the person who registered the domain itself and control DNS etc.?
The client wants ownership and move to a new host, I am the current owner, yes I registered it
cheers for the reply
no worries
so up to you how you proceed with this. you could simply change the DNS records to point the domain to his new hosting provider. you’d still be the owner of the domain name itself and be responsible for any further DNS changes
if you understandably don’t want anything to do with it anymore then you’d need to give him all the login details and change the ownership of the domain to him. what that actually entails depends on the domain registrar but it’s usually fairly straightforward
is there a reason that you registered the domain yourself on their behalf in the first place? i was it just part of the service you were providing?
Because I’m an idiot. And it was easier at the time and just thought I’ll change it later, which I obviously never got around to.
First thing I’m just going to get the ownership (DNS) switched to client then worry about changing host
Thanks
