I completely agree with you. I just think some of these brands are doing business in exactly the same was as they did in 2000 and keep trying the same way over and over and over even though the world changed and it doesn’t seem to be working anymore.

What! Haven’t listened to her bunt actually. I think her skating is sick and she has a dope style but also think I want to see ‘something a bit more’ before she goes pro if she isn’t already. I wanna see her credits part but a bit faster and heavier and a bit more out there.

She’s 23 man! How many young male skaters are routinely pictured rolling dice for money in videos? They turned Man Child pro and he seems more of a waster than Breana.

I was thinking the other day, do we tend to hold female skaters up more to the standards we’ve established around male skating? For instance Grey posted this clip:

My initial reaction was that she didn’t properly go into the bank and therefore this doesn’t count. But then I thought she’s clearly pushing herself and it’s still impressive. But I still have this nagging feeling that it’s not legit. Sorry for picking on this random woman, but it was just the latest example I could think of.
Yeah, you can’t really deny Breanna on drinking and gambling grounds when you’ve got a Tyler Pancheo pro board in the quiver.
That Breanna part was the ender part in a global video from one of the biggest brands in skateboarding. She skates really well and has made a solid name for herself.
Why do we need to compare her to males? I’m lost on that…remind me, again.

I’ve listened to that interview and “openly embracing a gambling and drinking dependency” is an exaggeration. Honestly, that post was pretty whack and condescending. I’ll second what @Londonskater said too.

I agree with you on this but also, is she pro? I haven’t heard of her so may be missing something, but if she’s pro then yes, it’s not up to scratch. If she’s just someone getting a bit of coverage, then it’s fine.
It’s too difficult to directly compare the standards of men’s skateboarding to others, for numerous reasons. And it’s not all about skill. But I do think, regardless of your gender, if you’re pro you should be hitting a certain mark.*
*but not necessarily the same mark

It was cool. Probably a personal high or something…nice to be recognised in your scene video.
But comparing one trick of someone unknown(?!) from a local scene video to Jim Greco or someone closing out a Vans global video is probably a bit dodgy.
It’s like when Warwick tries to compare the Conservative £350m pledge for the NHS with some rando spreadsheet posted on twitter by an unknown user claiming certain companies have left the UK because of Brexit. You could make it fit, but you’d be kidding yourself if you weren’t trying pretty fucking hard.
(Sorry. Don’t mean to compare you to him. I know you are lovely. I just leapt at the opportunity to bring up how daft Warwicks World is).

My friend tried to convince me it wasn’t real. We were like 13, the idea of drugs hadn’t really entered our world view yet.
But then again he was also the same friend who tried to convince me BOSR was burning his diary and not an actual Bible in his DITC part.
A lot of people have handled a life of partying and living in the fast lane without it causing too much damage too, a lot more than the worst case scenarios. I think skateboarding is just as responsible as any subculture that has its vices, and also as an adult we have free choice to make things for adults too without it having to be child friendly, it’s always going to end up hard to see what is right or wrong morally unless you assess each case Individually.

If you’re going to start calling out skateboarders for having a less than ideal relationship with booze/drugs/flutter then you’re going too need to set aside the next few years.
