Jesus, caught some of that Philip scofield on a desert island thing by accident last night, was well embarrassing and very partridge. Like the bit in places of my life with the sheep representing people who have wronged him
For me it’s the cringe levels of fake earnestness in the acting - particularly the Galadriel woman. And the total embarrassment of the elves presentation.
I really like the black goo explanation of Sauron’s rebirth though but the rest was toilet due to unbearably shit acting.
awwww i dunno man i think it’s fully inline with a lot of Tolkien stuff to really lean into the fun of being a really serious fantasy elf / sorceror / orc king / whatever.
the difference between Christopher Lee’s Saruman and the RoP Galadriel? one is a fantastic ancient shakespearean actor who can pull it off and the other is a young actor who can’t. both are hamming it up hard
unless you’ve read all of the books (Silmarillion etc.) then the elves are quite mysterious from the films and shows. i love that we have such variety in the elves in this show. i’ve noticed a lot of the criticism online is along the lines of “i’m not racist but why do we have a black elf. surely they’re meant to be pure and blonde and white and…”
