Don’t forget snacks!

Oh ace it is on Disney+. Might get hungry on it tonight if I remember.

Yes!

I also really loved the AvP comics from Dark Horse when they came out.
Totally different setting to this show but I have vague memories of Aliens attacking a farmhouse when Predators show up and it was so sick…

Just finished smoke on Apple TV, really good finale.

If you’re an Alien fan and find yourself Switzerland way then check this bar out.

My dumb ass will pronounce it guy-ger and be asked to leave.

back off hols, kids in bed, starting Alien Earth. Excited.

Hmm, forum broke!

Ep3, music is fucking annoying. Terrible guitar solo humanising a very future idea.

Edit: hmmm, not sure about this. Maybe it’ll do the typical thing of slow episode>action episode> slow>action etc etc.

I thought it was great.

All those songs are topical. Wherever I may Roam is about rejecting conventional life.

I forget the songs from the last two episodes, but the Ep 2 one made a lot of sense, thematically.

The Alien takedown

was absolutely epic. The brother just never in control, in every episode…and none moreso than here.
The whole mother (mu.th.er?) /parent theme continues on with Boy K, his lady assistant claiming ‘guardian’ and then more digging that ever into the Alien life cycle (How fucking cool was

the facehugger dissection!)

And whenever places and spaces are wet, it clearly pulls you back to Alien/Aliens and symbolises danger.

The dude spraying the walls was back. Is he getting rid of fungus? It seems like it to me…and if so, then I guess that play on being wet and trying to fight off something you can never truly get rid of is a good bit of subtext.

This felt like the end of the first arc of the story, moving away from the city having captured the wee beasties. And now they have trapped themselves on an island with horrors unknown.
At the same time, the lost children are beginning to question their own independence - by vying for Wendys space or being told everything the see is being recorded or by Ade Edmonson taking them down a peg or two depsite being in adult bodies.
Even Morrow begins to gaslight one of them to get what he needs.

I thought it was a really good ep, setting almost everyone onto a new path after establishing them.

Morrow even mentions that the Maginot

had been sabotaged.

Thats new. I wonder if that will appear again later.

I’m very excited for more.

Oh, and

Joe’s lung is being used to incubate a xeno fetus

- probably the darkest corporate flex yet and fully in line with Aliens expendable people stuff.

The Lost Boys/Hybrids trapped in adult bodies, now trapped as they are surveiled.
Nibs comparing herself to the eyeball parasite, realising she has no control.
Curly being trapped with the need for validation. Desperate for approval…Tinkerbell, innit?
Joe trapped with his body being used as an incubator.
Morrow trapped between his machine abilities and human frailty (Thats what he was questioning the lost boys and getting at, as he sweated out the data overload).
Even Boy is trapped by his obsessions.
And then…Everyone trapped on an island with everything deadly ever.

Wherever I May Roam doesn’t seem like an option at all.
Everyone is caged by Prodigy, by biology, or by their own compulsions.

Yeah I get you, you make it sound way better than I saw it. Maybe I was distracted, I lost a pool match I really should have won by whitewash but I just couldn’t settle so have been stewing a little.

Regardless, I AM excited for more, first 2 episodes I really liked.

Morrow might be my favourite character by far.

I wish his cyborg parts were a bit more ramshackle and in keeping with the general aesthetic/functionality/level of other tech in the universe… magic shapeshifting hand feels a bit far fetched and a bit of a macguffin…

even more so when you consider that it’s 65 year old tech… feel like the 65 year old journey thing could have been much shorter to put less pressure on the canon/timeline of things.

I’m awful for this, so if it is something I really want to watch I have to really, really make space for it. It ain’t easy.

Yeah, with you on that. 100%.

For anyone unfamiliar with the concept:

Just chipping in to say I loved it, and that “awful guitar solo” was Funkadelic’s ‘Maggot Brain’ so you can just go and wash your mouth out you heathen

Wow really? I listened to that a few times a long time ago and didn’t like most of it. I was probably deep into a different phase but I guess you can just judge me on that as you will.

Like films, there are probably quite a few revered/classic albums that I have ignored over the years.

Could be a fun to do in the music thread, admissions of classics you have never heard or given time to listen. A good one is that I have never listened to Dark side of the moon as an album. I know the songs but never done ‘the thing’.

Judge you? Because of something you said about music? Oh no I’d never do that

Music confessions could be a good one

Looked into this, turns out it wasn’t the OG but was an ‘interpretation’ by the soundtrack guy Jeff Russo. I thought it was a bit weird.

Here’s a sick version by Mike Watt/J Mascis/Bernie Worrell though:

Should probably be in the music thread, but fuck your rules

That makes more sense as I didn’t recognise it. I didn’t like it anyway.
