The TV Thread

I’m enjoying it, though will agree it’s not as good as some of the earlier episodes.

What I have noticed this season though is that they seem to have dropped a lot of the horror aspects. There were a couple of points in earlier seasons where it was genuinely scary - thinking of the first time they did the bone break stuff. Leaning a bit more into Ghostbusters this time, and a bit less Nightmare on Elm Street

The main issue, other than them being grown up now, is that episodes are far too long (and boring). Far better to condense down into 30/40 mins.

Missed that, but probably the best description for me

I’m gonna pretend I didn’t read any of these posts, it’s too upsetting for me cause I’m a mega nerd for it all. I do get the sentiment though. The charm it has in season 1 is pretty unbeatable, but I’ve been watching season 5 mind blown that this level of quality is TV now and not just cinema. And they’ve tied things up pretty well so far imo. Saw the play a couple of years back and that was also fantastic.

I am just a grumpy old git, it’s fine to like or love a show, it’s just not for me. In all fairness, in a lot of ways, the production quality for a TV show is head and shoulders above what has ever been possible

Absolutely loved the first season of Landman but this second season has been fucking woeful. It’s like they just got bored with it and gave up. The story writing, the acting, the dialogue…..all so boring.

In more positive news the old ‘Abandoned’ series that McCrank did for Vice has been re-uploaded:

Yep. Me too.

Thanks - have saved the playlist for a watch over Christmas.

Met up with a bunch of friends to watch the Stranger Things finale this afternoon. No doubt there are flaws but I truly don’t care. Absolutely loved every second of this whole show and nobody will change my mind. Felt every emotion during that finale.

Just finished it. Can’t believe it took 3 attempts over a couple years to get past episode 3 of S1.

Watching it now. Basically given up at the 15 minute coming out scene and the fact that a 6 stone 5 ft teenage girl can apparently shoot and kill 4 soldiers with an automatic rifle without breaking a sweat

But 2 dimensions merging seems realistic? I get it’s flawed I really do, and its probably my blind faith in it that makes me not care but I just accept it for what it is. A lot of that admittedly because the last Star Wars trilogy pissed me off so bad as I have a tendency to hyper fixate on anything I even slightly like which can lead to intense disappointment.

Was it perfect? No. Was it a fun ride throughout the whole series that gave me pretty every different emotional reaction you can have? Yes! I had a fantastic time.

I’m probably massively dismissive of it but the only character i want to see make it out is Murray

It was fucking nonsense. A real tough watch. Glad it’s all over.

That sounds absolutely wicked.

I started watching it in early November and just finished it this evening. Yep, lots of plot holes and too many annoying, precocious kids, but a show about teenage kids coming of age will always have that, along with simplistic papering over of key details, like how they all should be in therapy after witnessing & being involved in so many deaths, or how life in the town just went on despite all the craziness.

Still, I can laugh at all that and let it slide.

I’ve been watching it with my 13 year old and there’s a lot of life lessons that will stick with him from this, whether it’s a hero complex or understanding that friendships are fluid, don’t be a gnarly jock asshole, be open to friends who will struggle with their sexuality, etc. and whatever else like that which still sticks in my head from The Goonies and similar films I watched at his age. Just watching his reaction to key scenes and talking over plot points/holes was really cool - we got fully into all the Marvel movies a few years ago and were fully hyped up for Infinity War / End Game, so this story arc has been a little similar, shared experiences and all that.
