I’m not sure it’s really going to smash the rose tint off really because the THPS gameplay is nearly untouchably good isn’t it? Its sort of timelessly great.
I’m just looking at it from a ‘why does this product actually exist’ kind of way. They are repackaging the same levels for the 2nd time in some cases. It’s just doesn’t need to exist and just looks greedy as fuck.
You can’t compare THPS and Skate and that because they are two different products. One is realistic skate sim and the other is all about getting a million billion points. Both are great in their own ways.
No, the gameplay was awful! But i’m not a gamer, I was a skater who thought “a skater game? WOW” realising that real life skate scenario’s were not possible in games I guess people just embraced it for what it is, some unrealistic points game that just used the skateboard as the vehicle selling point. Not good, not bad, just THPS.
Yeah I never thought of THPS as having timelessly great gameplay, was sort of just button mashing.
Not going to lie I was a huge fan when they came out purely because it was a skating game, I’m sure they are still fun but think in retrospect they don’t have much depth to them at all. Especially as you pointed out the ones that came 2-3 games later improved on them in every way. Think once people are used to getting off the board its just going to be frustrating to go back to not being able to.
This looks it requires some technical know how/potentially illegal copies of THUG2 but this is a fan made THUG2 mod with pretty much every level from every game and online multiplayer
THPS games were great and number 2 was easily the best. Will be good to revisit them. I bought Skate 3 a couple of months back and can’t really get in to it. It seems way too inconsistent where I feel like I’m making the same movements but something wildly different happens each time. Kinda like real life in that sense I guess
Yeah I got this working not long ago, it’s fun, all the levels from the first six games redone with better graphics, plus there’s a huge community of custom made levels and rebuilds of existing spots. Not much use for anything else though there’s no career mode or anything
one of my employer’s competitors just said they’re giving employees 2 days off work to play this when it comes out. The responses: you can only play as darth maul on number 3. fucking mallgrabbers.
You have to be precise, takes a few goes. Tricks are very close together in movement but once you have the motion it’s easy to remember and do the trick you want.
Assuming it’s the same as the first skate it took me a while to nail flip tricks with any degree of accuracy, but it’s well satisfying when you get it. And it’s a lot harder to 360 flip into a grind than say kickflip or shovit, which obviously makes sense.
Currently learning how to hit specific grinds recently.
360 flips are quite satistying especially when into noseslide or nose bluntslide.
Been playing skate a little more as i’m at home as the kids want to play on it too. I turned it on about once a year for a long time previous.
Spent a good 20 mins perfecting a line yesterday. Started out with a frontside nollie heelflip (backside to ledge) to switch nosegrind revert > backside 180 to fakie 50, fakie frontside flip out > 360 flip k grind to fakie > fakie pop shove it to fakie 50 full cab flip out. All looking as realistice as possible obviously ha.
Yeah it seems that way, I was getting the hang of it a bit. I pretty much stopped playing games about 20 years ago so my dexterity isn’t all that. I can still slay at THPS though it’s rooted into my brain. Too late now anyway as my mate who gave me his Xbox when he moved out of the UK made a surprise return so now I’m stuck playing Two Point Hospital on my PC
